2021 Geelong Awards for People with Disability Leadership and Advocacy Award: Brooke Boyle

The Geelong Awards for People with Disability celebrate people with disability in Greater Geelong who are doing outstanding work in advocacy, leadership and empowering others and in their contributions to volunteering, at work or in the community.

These awards also help to promote ‘An inclusive diverse healthy and socially connected community’ which is a community-led aspiration outlined in our Access and Inclusion Plan 2018-2022.

Brooke Boyle has been a very active leader for the Geelong and Bellarine Peer Action Group for Victorian Advocacy League for people with disability. Brooke has built on her leadership skills over a 5-year period and has gone from a peer group member to group leader to state-wide peer action group meeting host.

Brooke now solely facilitates a monthly event called the Social Sunday Lunch that brings together both her peers and their families who as a result have created their own parent peer network. This peer lead event provides a space for attendee to become stronger self-advocates.

Brooke’s efforts to build upon her own skills and lead the event on her own ensures a regular reliable network that people can always circle back to if required.  Brooke’s time and hard work guarantees there is no end date or fear of cancellation of this friendship support group.

Brooke is open friendly chatty kind and always eager to involve as many people as she can.  She has a strong passion for providing opportunities to inspire people with a disability to become strong self-advocates and has a passion for assisting others to create/plan a life for themselves that is unique full of social connection and adventure.
