The City of Greater Geelong is working closely with Victoria Police emergency services and the Victorian Government to ensure New Year’s Eve celebrations at Corio Bay are COVIDSafe.

Two firework displays will be discharged over Corio Bay at approximately 9.30pm and midnight on New Year’s Eve. Both displays will run for eight minutes.

The City has worked hard to make sure the free community event can go ahead during the vital holiday season. Revellers are asked to please ensure they adhere to all COVID-safe directions throughout the evening.

Members of the public are encouraged to enjoy the legal fireworks display and refrain from letting off illegal fireworks which can create a risk of serious injury or death.

Pet owners should ensure that their animals are safe and secure on New Year’s Eve.

The following roads will be closed from approximately 8.00pm on Friday 31 December until after midnight on Saturday 1 January 2022:

  • Eastern Beach Road between Moorabool Street and Bellerine Street
  • Yarra Street between Brougham Street and Eastern Beach Road including Yarra Street extension.

    Some COVID-Safe measures:
  • Practise good hygiene and regularly and thoroughly wash your hands.
  • Carry a face mask and wear it if you are unable to maintain distance of at least 1.5 metres from others.
  • There may be large crowds so please be patient in queues and maintain distance from others where possible.
  • If you feel unwell please do not attend the waterfront.
  • Instead get tested as quickly as possible and isolate until you get a negative result.

Mayor Stephanie Asher

We all want to celebrate the end of a tough year but it’s important that everyone does so in a COVID-safe way in line with the current health directions

If you can see the skyline over Corio Bay you will be able to see the fireworks so there are plenty of different locations where you can enjoy the spectacular display.

We wish everyone in our community a safe and enjoyable night and a very happy New Year.

Councillor Eddy Kontelj

Our hospitality businesses have struggled through restrictions so we’re encouraging the community to enjoy the night at one of our fantastic local venues

“We look forward to a brighter 2022 and thank everyone in Greater Geelong for their resilience over the past two years.

Happy New Year everyone.
