Posters displayed at Open House #2 outlining potential biodiversity to be considered as part of the framework planning process:
- Future development will seek to retain and promote strategic retention of biodiversity within open space and drainage networks.
- Desktop analysis of the growth area and field surveys of some areas have been carried out to date. More detailed analysis will be required in future as part of any subsequent precinct structure planning processes.
- Remnant patches of native vegetation and scattered trees cover approximately 408 hectares within the growth area.
- The growth area contains native grasslands which are protected under both State and Commonwealth legislation (Western [Basalt] Plains Grassland and Native Temperate Grassland of the Victorian Volcanic Plain)
- Potential habitat for a range of Commonwealth and State listed significant flora species (Spiny Rice Flower and Large Headed Fireweed) is found within the growth area.
- Potential habitat for national state and regionally significant fauna species (Golden Sun Moth and Striped Legless Lizard) is found within the growth area.
- High quality plains grassland is located south of Staceys Road and has been identified as a potential conservation area.
