Barwon Heads residents are set to benefit from the development of an arts and community hub focused on supporting regional creative talent and improving access to the arts.

The recently completed Barwon Heads Arts and Community Hub will provide a home for the Barwon Heads Arts Council who will in turn manage bookings for broader community use.

The new Hub will feature three programmable multi-purpose rooms a studio space a makerspace and amenities.

The City of Greater Geelong provided the land and $427 000 for the project partnering with a $1million Victorian Government grant to complete the Hub.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher:

Facilities such as the Barwon Heads Arts and Community Hub were essential to encouraging connection for the region’s residents.

We understand the importance of connectedness to the development of good mental health and the particular role of the arts for our wellbeing.

It is vital that all members of the community have an opportunity to build relationships with fellow residents and this Hub will go a long way to supporting the regions creative community and experiences for the wider community from Barwon Heads and beyond.

Creative Communities and Culture portfolio chair Deputy Mayor Trent Sullivan:

The social benefits of the hub are enormous while it will also offer improved opportunities for artists and community organisations in the region.

This new facility will be ideal for developing relationships and building a real sense of establishing a community.

Of equal importance is the fact that it provides an opportunity for the strengthening of the local creative industry.
