L-R: Simon Jeanes - Coordinator Capital Projects, City of Greater Geelong, Darren Cheeseman - Member for South Barwon, Councillor Belinda Moloney

Councillor Belinda Moloney has today joined Member for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman in a visit to the construction site of a new community hub in Mount Duneed.

The hub at 110-122 Unity Drive is jointly funded by the Council ($10.7 million) and the Victorian Government ($2.25 million).

It will feature facilities for a new kindergarten maternal child health and consulting services together with multipurpose community and activity spaces.

The City is running a tender process for an external provider to operate the kindergarten and community spaces with the building expected to begin to be activated for the community in the second half of 2023.

Councillor Moloney Kardinia Ward:

The new facility will help meet the needs of the growing Armstrong Creek and Mount Duneed communities.

This part of Greater Geelong is undergoing rapid growth and it’s vitally important that we provide the support services that this community hub will offer.

The Council is delighted to partner with the Victorian Government in developing facilities of this nature to meet the current and future needs of local children families and residents in the area.

Mr Cheeseman expressed his delight at the new facility.

This new kindergarten in Mount Duneed will service our growing community and help meet increased demand for early childcare services.

A proposed name for the facility – Poa Banyal Mount Duneed Community Hub – was put forward for community feedback earlier this year. (Poa Banyal is Wadawurrung language and translates to Grassy Hill.)

The naming will be considered by the Council at an upcoming meeting.
