Armstrong Creek Town Centre’s Library is one step closer after the City of Greater Geelong Council voted to award the construction tender to A W Nicholson Pty Ltd at last night’s Council meeting.

The Armstrong Creek Town Centre Library is one of several community facilities the City of Greater Geelong is developing in response to the current and future needs of local children families and residents within the Armstrong Creek Growth Area.

The development tendered for the lump sum price of up to $18 382 751 (excluding GST) with the Victorian Government contributing $1.5 million through a Living Libraries Grant.

The Council has budgeted to fund the remaining amount but is also continuing to seek further government grant opportunities.

The development carries a 5-Star Green Star design and construction rating.

Along with the anticipated library catalogue the new asset will feature contemporary and accessible amenities a children’s story time area multipurpose spaces outdoor terraces and creative places for programming.

The library will be an exciting asset to the rapidly growing Armstrong Creek and Mt Duneed communities.

Located centrally and easily accessible by car public transport and active transport options this facility will be a major hub in the Armstrong Creek community and will eventually serve a population estimated to reach between 55 000 and 65 000.

It’s a particularly exciting initiative for the region and aligns with our vision to be an inclusive diverse healthy and socially connected community.

I applaud the awarding of the construction tender and said that the facility will provide an important gathering place as Armstrong Creek develops its own identity as an important southern Geelong suburb.

The library is actually the first social infrastructure delivered in the town centre to service the entire Armstrong Creek growth area.

Following the disruption to social connection of the past few years this development will be a positive step forward in bringing people together and restoring a sense of social cohesion.
