Grovedale Neighbourhood House is a  not-for-profit organisation. Neighbourhood Houses bring people together to volunteer connect learn and contribute in their local community through social educational recreational and support activities using a unique community development approach. (NHV 2016)

The Grovedale Neighbourhood House Volunteer plays an important role in:

  • Assisting in the day to day running of the Neighbourhood House by supporting GNH staff with administration tasks greeting visitors setting up/tidying up for activities or programs assisting with projects programs and events.
  • Providing community feedback and input into Neighbourhood House programs and community development activities.

Position responsibilities

Key responsibilities

  1. Assist with the upkeep and daily functioning of the Grovedale Neighbourhood House.
  2. Reception and administration tasks.
  3. Social Media/Grovedale Grapevine.
  4. Support and develop projects as agreed with the Volunteer Project Officer and/or Manager.
  5. Adhere to Grovedale Neighbourhood House Volunteer Procedures Code of Conduct and to all Council’s policies and procedures relevant to this position.

  • Understand and comply with Council OHS policies procedures and legislative requirements relevant to the position.
  • Perform work in a safe and appropriate manner.

The following general physical and functional requirements may apply to this position. Specific physical requirements will be attached if applicable.

  • Manual handling tasks.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
  • Dealing with difficult clients and situations.

Key selection criteria

  1. Demonstrates a respectful and inclusive approach to everyone that comes to the Neighbourhood House.
  2. Respects and maintains Grovedale Neighbourhood House members privacy and confidentiality.
  3. Ability to work as part of a team.
  4. Ability to safely carry out all the duties and responsibilities of the role.
  5. Current Working with Children Check (employee or volunteer card).
  6. National Police Check (to be initiated by the City of Greater Geelong).

Rostering

A volunteer may be rostered on a daily weekly fortnightly or monthly basis or as agreed with the Volunteer Project Officer.

Additional information

  • You will need to supply the details of two referees - 1 personal referee and 1 professional referee if you have been employed within the last 5 years. Please supply names and contact details on your application form.
  • The City of Greater Geelong provides personal injury cover under our Personal Injury Insurance and therefore volunteers can work up to 90 years of age.
  • Animals and/or children cannot accompany volunteers.
  • It is vital that volunteers do not discuss their personal issues or home situations with anyone . Any issues regarding your own or anothers health or wellbeing should reported to the Volunteer Project Officer.
