Knowing Your Place Walks

Knowing your place is about connecting with your neighbourhood and finding interesting landmarks along the way. We are developing a series of walks to explore your neighbourhood!

If you cant find a walk in your area use the prompts below to create your own:

We must always remember that this land is was and will always be the Wadawurrung Peoples traditional land.
  • What is the Wadawurrung Aboriginal name of the land that you live on?
  • What natural features are near you? Rivers? Mountains? What are the Wadawurrung Aboriginal names for these sites?
  • What native plants and animals can you see?
  • What is happening on your street? On your block? In your neighbourhood?
  • Do you see houses? Shops and businesses? Parks and green space?
  • Do you see bike lanes footpaths or ramps?
  • What do you know about the history of your street or suburb? Has it changed since you started living there?
  • Do you know the names of people who live in your street? If not why dont you know your neighbours? What is the importance of knowing who lives around you?
  • When you get home from your walk draw a map of the neighbourhood and include all of the things that you saw. Notice something different every time you journey or share your path with people who live near you and see if they can add to it.
