What was your inspiration for the artwork that features on the flag banners?
My artwork is sharing a story of Wadawurrung country acknowledging the 7 family groups of Wadawurrung in the mountains and surrounded by the many resources we have here on Wadawurrung country.
What would you like local people to know about NAIDOC Week?
What the day actually stands for and for people to try and get to community events during NAIDOC Week to show that they stand with us during this week and moving forward.
What does the theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week Always Was Always Will Be mean to you?
The theme means a lot to me as I’m sure it does to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This theme is about honouring the past – always was – but moving forward together – always will be. Acknowledging no matter where you stand in Australia you are on Indigenous land; Aboriginal people are still here breathing stronger than ever.
The youth coming through will continue to fight for what’s right – that’s the thing I’m most excited about being a young Aboriginal person.
