Kardiniyoo is the Wadawurrung name for sunrise. Djillang means ‘tongue of land’ which represents the bay shape of Geelong.

The Geelong Cats’ Djillang cultural arts program is designed to create cultural connections for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people. As part of the program young people participate in cultural projects with Indigenous players from the Geelong Football Club.

These artworks were created by the young people of the program in 2018 with support from players Nakia Cockatoo Jamaine Jones Brandan Parfitt Quinton Narkle and Tim Kelly with support from Nathan Patterson – artist.

Art is a way of telling story of identity and Country. Many of the symbols you see on the bollards represent water totems identity and country.

The artworks were unveiled on 26 May 2018 before the annual Djillang celebration round at Kardinia Park.

This is site 10 of the NAIDOC Week 2020 online trail.
