Walk around Seagull Lake and read about the history of country – from the time of the First Nations people. The metal signs around the lake feature information on weaving Wadawurrung resources reflection spaces the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative and ‘Always Was Always Will be’ Aboriginal land.

The Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative which borders the track contributed to the walk by designing and developing the signs led by the expertise of young Aboriginal people and guided by Aboriginal Elders. The track forms part of the Karndoor-Kapa Track which means ‘follow the Norlane Corio track’ in Wadawurrung language.

The Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative provides holistic and culturally secure service responses to meet the specific needs of the Aboriginal community living in or travelling through Wathaurong’s traditional boundaries. It delivers culturally appropriate health housing education employment and cultural services helps improve community wellbeing and builds the capacity of the community to control its own affairs and achieve self-determination.

Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative Limited is the largest employer of Aboriginal people within the Geelong region and in 2020 is celebrating 40 years since becoming incorporated.
