Willem Baa Niip (Billy) was a prominent male Wadawurrung figure in Geelong and district. He was born in 1836 on the banks of a lagoon in what is now Market Square.
The high esteem afforded him manifested in him being awarded a medal. The medal was illustrated in the News of the Week in 1917.
He passed away in 1885. He lived the last 15 years of his life on his own after his cousin Dan Dan Nook passed away in 1870.
