ACHPER (Australian Council for Health Physical Education and Recreation Victorian Branch) ACHPER is a professional association representing teachers and other professionals working in the fields of health physical education and sport and recreation areas of study in Victoria.

Barwon Sports Academy The Barwon Sports Academy Inc. provides pathways for aspiring athletes to reach higher goals at State and National levels through development programs sharing information ideas and experiences.

Bicycle Network Victoria – Ride2School Bicycle Network Victoria is a charity that promotes the health of the community and supports schools to get riding through offering grants and hosting National Ride2Shool Day.

Bicycle Network Victoria – Ride2Work Bicycle Network Victoria is a charity that promotes the health of the community and supports workplaces to encourage their employees to ride to work.

BioLAB: The Victorian BioScience Education Centre BioLAB’s aim is to engage and inspire the next generation in science and mathematics using innovative technologies and techniques. BioLAB programs showcase the best in bioscience research and careers including focus areas such as medical sport and health sciences biotechnology materials technology and biomechanics and is based out of Belmont High School.

Cats in the Community Cats in the Community is the Community Development arm of the Geelong Football Club. They have developed a number of education programs that aim to educate school age children around different health priorities. Healthy Heroes is aimed at year level 3 and 4 and focuses on positive behaviour change across five key areas; physical activity healthy eating hydration screen time and sleep.

City of Greater Geelong Swim Sport and Recreation Facilities The City of Greater Geelong (CoGG) hosts a number of Recreation Sports and Aquatic Centres across the region which offer various programs that can support school communities and families with physical activity initiatives and programs.

Cultura Provides community services to the Geelong region in the areas of immigration welfare community development youth training aged care and employment. They provide support for physical activity with various community programs.

Fitness Australia Fitness Australia is the national health and fitness industry association and is committed to achieving a Fitter Healthier Australia.

Get Active Victoria

Get Active Victoria is free to join and gives you access to a huge resource of tips and tools for being more physically active. You won’t need any fancy gear and expensive equipment to try our guided videos or activity ideas. 

Heart Foundation – Heart Foundation Walks The Heart Foundation saves lives and improves health through funding world-class cardiovascular research guidelines for health professionals informing the public and assisting people with cardiovascular disease. Free Heart Foundations Walks are available in eight different areas in Geelong.

Leisure Networks Leisure Networks promotes and strengthens community sport recreation and health opportunities for people of all abilities across the Barwon Region of Victoria.

 

Physical Activity Australia Physical Activity Australia is dedicated to advocacy to supporting people to be more active and to representing exercise professionals. They aim for all Australians young and old to be active every day and provide resources industry registration and professional development. 

Safe Routes to School Website Activities and resources can be used in any school who want to improve active travel. With a focus on improving walking and biking conditions around schools while building healthy habits and safety skills resources can assist schools in achieving both the physical activity and safe environments benchmark areas of the Health Promotion Achievement Program.

School Sport Victoria School Sport Victoria (SSV) is the peak body for School Sport in Victoria.  SSV is a sub-committee of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

SEDA (Sports Education Development Australia) Sports  The SEDA Sports Development Program offers a professional qualification for young people wishing to pursue a career in Sport and Recreation and other like industries. The program links closely with state schools in the delivery of a VET/VCAL/VCE curriculum for students in Years 11 and 12.

Sport and Recreation Victoria This site lists a number of state sporting associations with everything from archery through to wrestling.

Sporting Clubs and Associations  There are many sporting clubs and associations spread across the Geelong region. While too many to list here perfect places to look are our Community Directory.

VicHealth - This Girl Can A campaign aimed at celebrating and supporting Victorian women to embrace physical activity in ways that suit them. The site has links to a number of sports that women can find and participate in in their local area as well as tips from other women on getting active.

VicHealth – Walk to School The Walk to School Program is a VicHealth initiative that has given communities a way to get children walking to/from school again.

Victoria Walks – Smart Steps resources Smart Steps® is a collection of activities tools and tips that will help more Victorian children families and communities to walk every day. Whether you are a parent or guardian school teacher neighbour or employee there are many smart steps you can take to make your community a place where people can and do chose to walk every day.

VicRoads - Bike Ed Program Bike Ed teaches children aged 9-13 years the skills and knowledge required to ride a bicycle safely and independently.

YMCA Deakin - Health Fitness and Adventure Challenge Activities YMCA Victoria serves the local community in settings including camps student accommodation community recreation and sporting facilities swimming pools early education schools and kindergartens youth services and youth justice facilities.
