We recently received feedback from the Geelong West Rotary Club thanking us for supporting their biannual book fair.
The book fair raises money for a wide range of community beneficiaries. The City provides support for charity events such as this by subsidising venue hire costs.
The Rotary Club used the Geelong West Town Hall for their book fair in February and raised more than $20 000 over three days - a magnificent return considering the recent impacts of COVID-19.
Previous beneficiaries include:
- Kokoda Youth Program
- Operation Newstart
- Anam Cara House
- Barwon Health volunteer transport
- Christ Church meals program
- Samaritan House
- National drought and flood appeals
- Shelter box
This feedback is a great reminder of the many different ways we support local groups and a demonstration of our purpose of working together for a thriving community.
The next book fair will be held at Geelong West Town Hall in August.
The Hall was tops and allowed once again for an excellent venue for the sale of our secondhand books.
The Club followed the COVID-19 rules and enforced them where necessary to our patrons to ensure we were all safe. We had 3 brisk days of sales which resulted with total income of over $20 000.00.
As well as putting the books back into the local and regional community the funds raised will be applied to Rotary approved projects and programs yet to be determined.
