About Councillor Cadwell

Describe yourself

I’m a local like you. I’ve lived most of my life in Geelong, and I know it well.

I went to school in Geelong, and I live on the same street I grew up on, with my family.

We love living in Geelong, going to the footy, walking along the beach and everything else that it has to offer.

It’s a great honour to be elected to this important role in my hometown.

In my day job I represent the needs and interests of everyday working people, focused on negotiating good outcomes.

That’s an approach I will bring to my role as a councillor.

Why did you run for council?

Firstly, I want to thank the people of the Brownbill Ward for electing me as their councillor.

There’s a couple of sayings I love, that “decisions are made by those that show up”, and “if it’s meant to be, it’s up to me”.

Essentially, they’re about speaking out and speaking up, taking part and taking responsibility, and representing and improving our great community.

I decided to run for Council to ensure that the needs and interests of the residents in the south-eastern suburbs were being considered in Council’s deliberations and decisions.

And I couldn’t see anyone like me on the Council – a woman, an everyday working person, a person hailing from the south-eastern part of the Brownbill Ward.

I’ve run for Council twice now in 2017 & 2020 and now I’ve been elected in 2023. It shows that persistence pays off!

And my motivations and goals haven’t changed. I’ll work to ensure that my community isn’t forgotten by Council.

And I’ll do my very best to represent all the residents of the Brownbill Ward and Greater Geelong.

Top three areas of focus during your term

  1. Making sure the Council delivers for residents in the services it provides, and the facilities it builds, owns and runs.
  2. Working with the federal and state government to ensure that our community gets what it needs in terms of federal and state funding and services
  3. Advocating for the best interests of all Geelong residents in Council’s deliberations and decisions.

What does a ‘clever and creative’ Geelong region mean to you?

A region that nurtures people to be their best, to live fulfilled and productive lives.

It’s looking to the future and fostering innovation, new ideas, opportunities and people, being enterprising and adaptive, while remembering and celebrating our heritage and history, and maintaining a sense of our own unique culture.

Favourite thing about Greater Geelong?

It’s my hometown!

We’re a small town and a big city. An important regional hub, the gateway to the Great Ocean Road and the Otways, and only a stone’s throw away from Melbourne. We’re growing quickly and expanding rapidly – with new suburbs and infrastructure being developed and implemented.

We’re a destination of choice for major sporting events, for tourists, local and international, and for new residents – there’s about 500 people moving into the Geelong area each month.

There’s lots going on in Geelong right now, and lots of challenges. But I’m confident that together we can face them and make Greater Geelong an even better place to work, live and play.
