Abbey Rich’s return to seeking inspiration in textiles has come at a time when nothing feels the same. it is almost like a comfort for them something to hold on to. These works speak to their childhood and my early career. Heavily patterned brightly coloured and somewhat textural the works are nostalgic and playful. The gallery becomes an installation with layers of murals framed works and hanging sculptures; a safe strange world to sink into.

Abbey Rich is a public and exhibiting artist based in Naarm (Melbourne) Australia. Their work predominantly looks at gender and environment with a particular interest in accessible and community co-designed public art making. Abbeys studio practice currently focuses on experimentation with sculptural and textile inspired works that are heavily patterned and textural. Recently they have created work for The Immigration Museum with Minus18 and City of Melbourne.

In 2021 Abbey was a Platform LAB artist in residency.

PLEASE NOTE: This exhibition will officially open from 6.00pm on Friday 01 April. Platform galleries are open from 9.00am-5.00pm Mon-Fri and 10.00am-3.00pm on Saturdays.
