    Citizen Science is a participatory approach to scientific research that engages community members to be actively involved in collecting, analysing and interpreting local data.

    A digital twin is a virtual 3D model of our city representing terrain surfaces, buildings, vegetation, infrastructure and other objects and assets to support efficiencies and data-driven planning decisions.

    Fibre to the Bellarine
    A partnership between the City of Greater Geelong, Deakin University and Australia’s Academic and Research Network (AARNet) is delivering high-speed internet to community, education, and research facilities on The Bellarine Peninsula.

    Why do we need to be a smart city?
    A 'smart' Greater Geelong will harness data and insight to keep track of the health of our city, and the needs of our citizens.

Smart cities improve quality of life for citizens by embracing digital technology, utilising data and fostering innovation. They are inclusive, connected, sustainable, resilient and prosperous. They address persistent problems, deliver improved community experiences and provide more efficient services. Ultimately, they are better places to live, learn, work and visit.

We believe becoming a smarter city is critical to achieving the community’s clever and creative vision. In partnership with citizens and stakeholders, we've developed the first Smart City Strategic Framework for Greater Geelong. It presents a shared vision for the future of smart technology, open data and innovation within our region. You can view the document, alongside the four-year implementation and action plan, below.
