We have taken a significant step toward realising our shared vision for the future of smart technology and innovation through the installation and activation of key backbone infrastructure.
Twenty-two kilometres of high-speed optical fibre and nineteen additional Smart Nodes provide key services including public WiFi intelligent lighting IoT gateways and CCTV opening doors to a raft of future possibilities.
This game-changing initiative was planned and delivered to both improve digital inclusion in the North and future-proof our region ensuring we are well placed to harness digital opportunities as our city continues to grow and change.
Delivered thanks to a $1.8 million investment from the Victorian Government Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions through the Connecting Regional Communities Program.

Fibre key to Smart City goals
We’re a step closer to achieving our Smart City goals thanks to the City’s endorsement of a 15-year agreement to access 24 kilometres of optical fibre from Corio to East Geelong.
