Goods prohibited from sale
There are items which are considered inappropriate for sale at the Belmont Market due to them being either illegal or against the community nature of the market. The following items are not to be sold at the Belmont Market:
- cigarettes or any tobacco products
- alcohol or associated products
- live animals (pets or livestock)
- firearms or explosives
- weapons
- pornography
- pirated media (includes DVDs)
- any product considered to be illegal or against the community nature of the market.
A driver’s license may be requested for photocopy by any staff who suspect stall holders of selling suspicious items.
Management reserve the right to shut down a site selling prohibited goods whether they are listed above or not.
The Belmont Market will also pass on any information collected to Victoria Police as requested.
Sale of media/tech items
Any stall holder wishing to sell any form of tech item or media inclusive of DVD movies audio CDs and photographs will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license for photocopying and record keeping.
The purpose of this is to prevent the sale of pirated media and any information requested by authorities around the sale of pirated media will be passed on.
Any persons wishing to sell media items but do not wish to provide their driver’s license will not be allocated a site at the Belmont Market.
Sale of electrical items
The sale of second hand or used electrical items such as power tools or household appliances is permitted at the Belmont Market although stallholders are liable for ensuring that all items are safe; unsafe or hazardous items include but are not limited to the below categories:
- Items with frayed or damaged electrical cords.
- Homemade power cords or extension leads.
- Items that are considered potentially dangerous upon visual inspection.
Belmont Market staff will not be held liable for the sale of faulty goods nor will we assist customers track down stallholders suspected of selling faulty goods.
Customers must accept that goods are sold ‘as is’.
