Stallholder site safety
It is the responsibility of the stallholder:
- to complete a risk assessment on their site before the grounds open to public
- to ensure that no dangerous or harmful goods are brought onto the premises.
Any hazardous or protruding objects must be reported to staff member or removed immediately.
Belmont Market staff reserve the right to inspect any goods proposed to be brought onto the premises and inspect the stall itself from time to time throughout the day.
Any direction from Belmont Market staff regarding risk management of a stall must be adhered to.
Hazardous substances and dangerous goods
The City of Greater Geelong has a ‘Hazardous Substances & Dangerous Goods Procedure’ which must be adhered to at the Belmont Market at all times.
Any stall holder who purchases storage space at Barwon Valley Activity Centre will be liable to those terms and conditions included in these is a ruling that no stallholder is permitted to store any chemicals that may be considered as hazardous flammable or dangerous in any way. This includes chemicals that may be harmful when ingested.
The sale of chemicals or any substance by stallholders is not permitted at the Belmont Market.
Bringing your dog to the market
Dogs may be permitted if accompanied by a market-goers provided that they meet the following criteria:
- all dogs must be on a leash and
- all dogs must be kept under control by their owners at all times
- dogs may not enter the indoor areas of the Belmont Market for any reason (this does not apply to registered guide dogs)
- owners take on full responsibility for the behavior and actions of any dogs which they bring to the market
- owners take on full responsibility for cleaning up after of any dogs which they bring to the market;
- registered guide dogs are permitted into all public areas of the Belmont Market/Barwon Valley Activity Centre site.
Fireworks and naked flames
The presence and or use of any fireworks or naked flames for the purposes of entertainment and/or sale will not be permitted at the Belmont Market under any circumstances. This includes products associated with fireworks and/ or naked flames.
Tents marquees and umbrellas
Stallholders may wish to erect tents marquees and umbrellas on their site. This is generally accepted so long they adhere to the following:
- Acknowledge that any risk resulting from the manual handling of erecting the structure is at the stallholders risk.
- Accept that in any case where the structure protrudes beyond the particular stall the stall boundaries:
- May incur an addition site fee for each site that is being protruded onto
- Remove the structure if it is blocking or reducing any path of travel for patrons egress or access point. Or if causing general nuisance at the discretion of Belmont Market staff.
- All tents marquees and umbrellas must be weighted down and secure to prevent them from tipping blowing away or causing nuisance – the following apply:
- No tent marquee or umbrella can be fixed with pegs or anchors which penetrate the ground in any way shape of form. Weights must be used to a minimum of 20 kilograms on each leg/corner and the tent marquees or umbrella secured to all weights by rope or chain.
- If the Venue Manager or other responsible City officer including Belmont Market staff deems that the erecting of tents marquees or umbrellas is unsafe on any day due to high winds or other weather factors all stallholders must immediately pack away any tents marquees and umbrellas without question.
Equipment
It is the stallholders responsibility to ensure that all equipment bought to the Market by the stallholder or hired from the market including but not limited to trestle tables and clothes racks has been erected securely is operated in a safe manner and has been ballasted against strong winds prior to the commencement of trading.
All stall equipment including tables racks products signage etc must be located within the designated boundaries of the allocated stall(s). Public access ways must be kept clear at all times and stallholders must cooperate with Market Management to ensure that an appropriate corridor spaces are maintained along the pedestrian pathways.
Electricity supply/powered sites
Stallholders requiring electricity (and have been provided approval for use) must use the onsite power points unless they have approval to use a portable generator. Electricity supply is only for approved Food & Beverage Stallholders that have been approved and have paid any additional fees agreed upon.
If power supply is available and the above criteria is met stallholders must ensure that all electrical equipment and leads utilized by the stallholder are to be tagged in compliance with relevant workplace laws and regulations and such tags must be available for inspection at all times by Belmont Market staff.
The power supply is limited and unreliable. Food and beverage stallholders must not use more than 2000 watts of electricity from any one power point. Approval to use more power can only be given by the Venue Manager. This approval will only be given in exceptional circumstances.
Approval to use a portable generator can only be given by the Venue Operations Coordinator or Venue Manager and only in exceptional circumstances. This approval must be in writing. It will not be given for the use of un-silenced portable generators.
