Wildlife Photographer of the Year 57 finalist Doug Gimesy will take aspiring travel photographers through the fundamentals of what to consider when capturing the perfect travel photograph.
Pre-requisites
Basic understanding of:
- handling the camera
- basic camera equipment
- impact of shutter speed
- impact of aperture on depth of field
- impact of using different lenses and focal lengths.

About Doug Gimesy
Doug is a professional conservation and wildlife photographer whose clients include National Geographic BBC Wildlife magazine bioGraphic Australian Geographic and papers such as the NY Times The Australian and various NewsCorp mastheads.
An Associate Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP) Doug is also governor of the World Wide Fund for Nature (Australia). In 2017 he co-established the Victorian Alliance for Platypus-Safe Yabby Traps to facilitate a ban on the use and possession of platypus-drowning fishing traps.
Recent projects
His recent work has focused on the conservation and animal welfare issues that face the platypus the Grey-headed Flying-fox of Melbourne and the little blue penguins of St Kilda.
Current projects
He is currently working on:
- Illegal reptile wildlife trade of reptiles out of Australia.
- A series of portraits called Wildlife Warrior Conservation champions and animal advocates’.
- The impact of bushfire on Australian wildlife and those who deal with the aftermath.
