Job advertisements – Geelong and Surf Coast
A total of 10 554 job vacancies were newly advertised online on SEEK Career One and JobSearch in the March 2023 quarter. This is a decrease of 3.2 percent compared to the previous quarter yet an annual increase in newly advertised vacancies of 8.3 percent.
The average number of job ads added to SEEK Career One and JobSearch each quarter during the 2022 was 10 604. This is an increase of 44.3 percent compared to 2021 and an increase of 180.2 percent compared to 2020.

Occupational groups
The number of new online job advertisements rose in two of the eight occupational groups in the March 2023 quarter. Increases were recorded for managers (+2.9 percent) and clerical and administrative workers (+0.3 percent). The largest decreases in the number of new job advertisements were for sales workers (-14.7 percent) machinery operators and drivers (-6.0 percent) and labourers (-3.9 percent).
Compared to the March 2022 quarter the number of new online job advertisements rose in three of the eight occupational groups. An annual increase was recorded for professionals (+31.7 percent) managers (+25.9 percent) and and community and personal service workers (+9.5 percent). The largest decreases in the number of new online job advertisements was for machinery operators and drivers (-13.1 percent) sales workers (-12.0 percent) and labourers (-5.3 percent).

In the year to the March 2023 quarter at a more detailed occupational level the number of new job advertisements increased in 29 of the 48 detailed occupational groups.
In this twelve month period the occupational groups with the largest number of new online job advertisements were Medical Practitioners and Nurses (with 342 more new job advertisements a 45.2 percent increase) Carers and Aides (+139 ads +20.2 percent) and Legal Social and Welfare Professionals (+114 ads +32.0 percent). The occupational groups that recorded the largest annual decrease in the number of new online job advertisements were Hospitality Workers (with 97 less new job advertisements a 24.5 percent decrease) Sales Assistants and Salespersons (-81 ads -12.0 percent) and Drivers and Storepersons (-71 ads -22.5 percent).
