Recycle right this Easter
Easter is just around the corner, but it’s not the time to forget our recycling rules. Use these helpful hints to recycle right at Easter and reduce your waste.
  1. Aluminium foil wrapping from Easter eggs can go in your yellow-lidded bin for recycling. Aluminium is one of the most recyclable materials because of the amount of energy saved if we do recycle it so gather up the empty and clean foil wrapping scrunch into a ball and pop it in your recycling bin.
  2. Cardboard and plastic packaging from your Easter treats can also go in your recycling bin. And remember flatten all cardboard boxes to maximise space in your yellow-lidded bin.
  3. Plastic bags from your hot-cross buns should be taken back to your supermarket for recycling through the REDcycle program. These soft plastics along with bread bags confectionary bags are reused by companies in Ballarat Somerton and Albury to make new products.
  4. Look for Easter treats with minimal packaging or try a waste-free Easter this year and whip up your own bunny biscuits shortbread or Easter egg truffles that the kids can help make and bake. Check out these fun recipes too. If time’s not on your side look out for package-free Easter eggs such as the Lovely Earth range available from Valerie’s Pantry but call first to check the supplies.
  5. Think carefully about your food purchases and only buy what you need. This will help reduce your waste and save you money.

Please note there are no changes to kerbside bin collections on Good Friday or Easter Monday. Put your bins out the night before as usual.
