Your garden waste bin
Every year we transform 35,000 tonnes of material from your garden bins into high quality compost, right here in Greater Geelong.

Putting the right thing in your bin helps to support a circular economy for our region where waste is turned back into a useful product for Greater Geelongs parks sporting grounds and backyards.

Our compost is enriched with food waste that we collect as part of the Lara food waste trial. Find out how we process this waste locally.

Where can I purchase Geelong-made compost?

Better Geelong Compost can be purchased for approximately $70 to $80 per cubic metre from the following suppliers:

Some suppliers are selling the compost as is whereas others are selling it as a composite product.

What can I put in my garden bin?

An easy rule to remember is: If it doesnt grow it doesnt go!

Yes

  • Grass leaves and other garden clippings
  • Twigs branches and small logs that can fit in the bin

No

  • Pet poo or litter. Place in your red bin or compost it at home with our subsidised home compost program
  • Treated timber such as pre-cut planks for construction. These can contain chemicals that poison compost!
  • Kitchen scraps and food attract pests at our facility. Compost it at home.
  • Plant pots tools or hoses.
  • Plastics or general rubbish.
