This Girl Can - Webinar Series
As part of our This Girl Can celebrations, the City joined with neighbouring councils and recreation groups to host a webinar series for local physical activity providers.
This two-part event focused on empowering more women to be physically active and what clubs and groups could do to encourage this.
The webinar series was developed in partnership with Surf Coast Shire Golden Plains Shire Borough of Queenscliffe G21 – Geelong Region Alliance Leisure Networks and Kardinia Park Trust with funding support from VicHealth.
Webinar 1: Supporting Women and Girls in Active Sport and Recreation
Guest Speakers
- Rochelle Eime Professor at Federation and Victoria Universities outlines the latest statistics and industry information around women and girls participation in sport and how we can do it better.
- Maddie Hogan 3 x Paralympian reflects on her time in community sport as a young girl living with a disability and how she broke down barriers for her passion to stay active.
- Guy Molloy Head Coach of the Melbourne Boomers WNBL and New Zealand Tall Ferns talks about the role that men have in encouraging more women and girls to participate in sport and recreation.
Webinar 2: Supporting Community Recreation and Sporting Clubs in the G21 Region
Guest Speakers
- Bianca Chatfield was one of the youngest players ever to debut for the Australian Diamonds at just 18 years old. She is the founder of online leadership program The Ignition Project and author of ‘Every Girl Needs A Plan’.
- Richelle Olsen is the founder of the not-for-profit Escaping Your Comfort Zone which provides body positive adventures for women and non-binary people. Richelle was the recipient of the VicHealth Sports Innovation Grant in 2016 and is a proud supporter of This Girl Can - Victoria.
- Jaccob Rodda is the Past President Captain Junior Coordinator and Junior Coach of Irrewarra C.C. Jaccob grew his club to over 130 active female players earning him the 2019-2020 State and National Award for Coach of the Year and now heads up female programs in the district.
