St Leonards Streetscape

The St Leonards streetscape is a series of projects to upgrade, enliven and create a safer town centre.

In 2019 the City committed funds to upgrade the town centre with improved pavements landscaping  drainage pedestrian safety and more furniture. The concepts went out to the community in November 2019 and in January 2020 the feedback was fed back into the detailed designs.

There are a number of projects that are in different stages of development from concept to detailed design community consultation tendered construction and completed.

Project updates:

  • Toilet block upgrade - completedNew mural and some updated internal furniture.
  • North Centre footpath - completedUpgrade drainage and self watering of planter beds. Install raised garden beds and plantings. Refurbish and install new furniture.
  • Bus stop relocation - completedMove bus stop from outside the Pub to the start of the retail to the west.
  • Project 1- North West footpath - construction completed Upgrade of footpath adjust kerbing install garden beds new furniture and planting
  • Project 2- North East Footpath - construction completed Upgrade of footpath refurbish furniture.
  • Project 4- South East Footpath - construction completed Upgrade footpath refurbish furniture.
  • Project 3- South West Footpath - construction completedUpgrade footpath remove step extend kerbing refurbish furniture install garden beds and planting.
  • Project 5- Median installation - construction completedInstall new flush median along Murradoc Road.

The following projects have received Federal and State funding to construct them. The works will follow on from the above projects.

  • Project 6- Wombat Crossing Blanch Street - construction completedNew raised pedestrian crossing.
  • Project 7- Wombat Crossing Murradoc Road - construction completedReplace old crossing with new raised crossing.
  • CCTV and smartpoles - construction completed Installation of CCTV and smartpoles for Murradoc Road. Incudes free WiFi. 
  • Light upgrades -Completed  Lighting of trees.
  • Sculpture installation. -Construction completed

The following projects are ready for construction:

  • Project 8 - Playground surrounds - Will be built with the new pavilion and toilet on the foreshore later this year. Upgrade of footpaths adjusted playground fence for better crossing access planting. Links to new toilets outdoor showers and shelter.
  • Further landscape works planting under trees. Winter installation
