Leone and John Cooke
Leone and John Cooke have been volunteering with Meals on Wheels in Corio for eight years.

As direct delivery volunteers they have face to face contact with members of the local community.

“We really enjoy the contact with our clients and feel we contribute to their wellbeing as well as our own by engaging and communicating and have formed some quite strong relationships ” Leone says.

While their primary role is to deliver meals the pair find themselves helping in other ways such as opening stubborn jars sharing a laugh or sometimes calling for medical assistance.

“The service Meals on Wheels provides includes not only meal delivery but also ensuring some of the more vulnerable members of our community feel supported and valued ” Leone says.

“We would encourage anyone who has a spare few hours once or twice a week to volunteer to contribute to the community to enjoy the camaraderie and to also see the benefit in yourselves.”
