Meet Dr Lucy Dobson.
Lucy volunteers her time as an L2P mentor helping young people practice behind the wheel with the goal of getting their driver’s licence.
Sometimes the young people might not have access to a car to learn to drive or a support person to supervise their mandatory hours.
Lucy joined the program as a mentor in 2017.
“I love being able to see the young people achieve their licence and gain their independence ” she says.
“They are often so excited and highly motivated. I also get the privilege of supporting them socially and emotionally if they require it.”
Lucy says she gets great satisfaction from volunteering.
“Each time one of my mentees gains their licence is the standout for me ” she says.
“I can see that they are going to be able to thrive as an independent young person.
“Volunteering is about the fulfilment and joy - the warm and fuzzy - of being able to help others.
“There really is no other better way to give back to the community.”
