Food Business - gas and electrical safety
Safety is paramount in all businesses. Gas and electrical safety is monitored by Energy Safe Victoria.
We encourage food businesses to be aware of their obligations under the Energy Safe Victoria Act 2005 whether you are starting a new food business or taking over an existing food premises.
- Energy Safe Victoria provides important information for businesses using gas as part of their food preparation. They recommend that all gas and electrical appliances and equipment should be checked prior to use.
- Mobile food premises such as carts and trailers as well as temporary and portable food premises - tents marquees etc must also comply with Energy Safe Regulations.
- Organisers of Events should be familiar with the Code of Practice for The Safe Use of LP Gas at Public Events In Victoria.
Carbon monoxide can be a silent killer and Energy Safe Victoria have information regarding this important matter.

Any business that sells food or drinks for human consumption will be required to be registered under the Food Act and to continue to meet the standards required.
