Demolitions
Before you can get a building permit to demolish all or part of a building, you might need to get a demolition consent (also known as ‘Section 29A of the Building Act 1993’) from the Planning Department.
You will need to apply for both a demolition consent and a building permit if you plan to demolish:
- more than 50 percent of the entire building or
- any part of a wall that faces the street.
You may also need to apply for an asset protection permit. You can do this at one of our customer service centres.
If the property is covered by a Heritage Overlay you will also require a Planning Permit with Endorsed Demolition Plans to submit with your request.
If you will need to erect barriers outside your property boundary (on the footpath nature strip or roadway) to protect the public during the demolition work you will also need the following:
Land information certificates (LICs)
This certificate tells you about the property that you are purchasing so that when you become the owner, all rates and charges are paid on settlement.
Dwelling re-locations
A building permit and a demolition consent are required to remove a dwelling from a property.
